Ceramic Drawing
Each table chooses a ceramic and places it in the middle of the table. Place white pieces of paper underneath the ceramic if it helps to see the shadows clearer. Draw the ceramic by shading. TIPS:
- Choose the direction of the paper (tall -> vertical, wide -> horizontal)
- Draw a LIGHT!!! and loose outline of the shape of the ceramic. Make sure to leave room for the shadow. Redraw if it doesn’t fit the first time.
- Draw the ceramic at the angle that you see it! Do not draw it straight-on unless it is!
- Look for the darks and shade them in! These ceramics may be white but shadow is very present. There may be a few parts that you leave the paper-white but there shouldn’t be a lot of them! The more shadow/shading the more real it will look!
- Now make those darks darker! Don’t be scared! Most shading can be made darker.
- Shade in the direction of the ceramic. These are round, so shading should rarely be straight lines. They should curve with the shape of the ceramic.
- Use a paper towel if you want to smudge the graphite. If you use your fingers, it is too great a surface area and will get your paper dirty
