Upside Down Drawing
A key to drawing realistically is to forget the object that you are drawing and to focus in on the shapes and lines instead. One easy way to trick your brain into NOT looking at the object for what it represents (person, animal, flower) is to turn it upside down. Choose one of the images (front or back) to draw while looking at it upside down. Do the best you can; it is really exercising your artistic muscles! You will be graded on completion.
- Cut along the edges (or fold) one of the upside-down drawn images (front or back).
- Trace the rectangle of the cut image onto the piece of paper.
- Turn the image upside down and draw what you see (not what you think you see)!- Go SLOWLY!
- Check where you start and finish a line.
- Look for changes in the line, where it turns, and how it curves.
- Draw ALL the lines
- Don’t cheat! Look at your drawn image when you are done.
