Creative Coil Bowl
Definition: Coil building is a hand-building technique employed to create pots. Clay "snakes" are formed, pushed and pinched to combine them into a pot. Sometimes the artist leaves the coil appearance to achieve a particular affect. Ceramics created with coil building depend largely on the artist's hand to create the object's form vs. using a potters wheel or mold. The coils themselves may be defined or smooth based upon the texture of the object or the intent of the artist.

Project: For this project you will use the coil-building technique to build a ceramics piece of your choice. In the link provided below, you will find a variety of example of forms you can use for inspiration. Your project should be an original, meaning you are not replicating another piece you've seen. You can be inspired and borrow ideas from a variety of works and combine them to and an original piece of your own.
Look for the worksheet in your binder. Complete four sketches and have them checked off by the instructor. Start your research and get inspired!! |
