Mimbres Pottery
The Mimbres culture consisted of several hundred small villages in southern New Mexico. Each village had less than 200 inhabitants existing between approximately A.D. 100 and A.D. 1150. Their valley supported a rich diversity of wildlife and the people lead a peaceful existence relying on gathering, hunting, and some limited farming.
After learning about the art of the Mimbres people, you will create a bowl in the same style. We will be using the coil building technique. Afterwards we will be painting it with engobe and using the sgraffito method to decorate it. |
