For this project your will be creating a stamp that will be used to stamp on all your projects, so make sure it is something you really like and want to be identified with.
On the back side of the worksheet you received during the PowerPoint, create four different sketches. Make these sketches detailed and look exactly like you want it to look on your stamp. Remember you will have to reveres any letters in order to read it.
Follow these steps:
1. Get your bag of clay
2. Start by forming the overall shape of your stamp
Things to think about:
SIZE, how big should a stamp be??? you will need to stamp this on various sized projects.
SHAPE OF STAMP, your stamp can be oval, circle, square, hear, what ev'a.
SHAPE OF YOUR HANDLE, how does it feel in your hand?
3. Cover loosely and put it back in your cubby, we want the clay to be in the leather hard stage to carve. Do not try to carve into the clay when it is too soft, you will only have to redo it. DO NOT WRAP IN WET PAPER TOWELS unless specifically told to do so by Ms. C
4. Clean up your mess, any extra clay can be put back in the main clay bag (located in the back corner of the wedging/glaze room).
5. Make 4 different sketches
6. Have your sketch checked off by Ms. C
7. Place your sketch in front of you along with the tools you will need
8. Start carving ONLY if your clay is leather hard.
9. How to store your stamp for the day:
If you are finished with your handle: you will wrap a wet paper towel around just the bottom half covering your stamp area well.
Place in a bag and make sure it is closed
If your handle is UNfinished: Wrap the whole stamp up with damp paper towls (damp, not soaked). Place in a bag and make sure it is closed.
10. Put it back in your cubby
11. Clean up your mess
IF YOU ARE CONFUSED
first; re-read the directions
Second; ask a classmate
Third, ask Ms. C
